What is an elbow 20mm MDPE fitting?
This 45 degree elbow 20mm fitting is designed to bend the flow of water without putting unnecessary stress on the MDPE pipe you’re using.
MDPE pipe is flexible to a degree – but you’ll generally need large radius bends if you want to change the direction of water. These elbow 20mm fittings allow you to immediately change the flow by 54-degrees without stressing your poly pipe.
How to fit
Like other compression fittings, an elbow is quick and easy to install. First, you’ll need to cut the MDPE pipe to the required length – being sure to remove and burrs and chamfer the end slightly.
When your pipe is prepped, insert a pipe liner to avoid damage – then you should unscrew the compression nut on the fitting until you can see roughly half of the thread it conceals. Slide your MDPE pipe into the fitting – being sure to go through the middle of the nut, the split ring, and the o-ring inside.
With your pipe seated in the connector, you can tighten the nut again. Hand tight is usually fine for pipes up to a diameter of 40mm – but for over 40mm, it’s a good idea to use a pipe wrench to make sure you get the required pressure.
Repeat this for the other part of MDPE pipe and you’ve got a tough and long-lasting fitting that’s easy to remove should you need to service it.
