A bunded fuel tank is used by most commercial and industrial premises (i.e. the ones that require an oil tank with a storage capacity of more than 200 litres). They’re also a requirement at installations, where siting of the tank requires it based on OFTEC’s requirements. Tanks over 3,500 litres capacity will need to be bunded. As much as this storage limit, it depends upon the pollution risk. By way of example, a tank is essential if the container has to be sited in an area that carries the risk of an oil spillage reaching a public water supply, lake, river or stream. If you’re unsure of the kind of tank you need, the best step is to contact your local installer, who will perform a risk assessment for you and let you know whether a tank is essential in your circumstances.
