Order a 90° Degree MDPE Elbow That’s WRAS Approved Here!
Here at EasyMerchant, we stock a massive range of alkathene pipe (otherwise known as MDPE or poly pipe) and the MDPE fittings required to join lengths of MDPE water pipe together.
Part of that range are these 90-degree MDPE elbows.
What is a MDPE elbow
An elbow joint is a 90-degree fixed bend that allows for a sharp change of direction in your MDPE pipe flow.
MDPE is flexible – but bends need to be made with a large radius – which isn’t always practical when you’re working around underground obstructions or within buildings. Therefore, to avoid compromising the structural integrity of the pipe, an elbow fitting like this should be used.
These parts are referred to as elbow fittings simply because of their shape – resembling an elbow bend.
Fitting an elbow joint
The nature of the compression style fittings on an elbow joint makes them quick and simple to install.
First, your MDPE pipe needs to be cut the the correct length and any burrs removed from the cut end. Then, you should fit a pipe liner to ensure the pipe is not crushed when the elbow is tightened.
Loosen the connector until half the thread is visible – then, carefully push the MDPE pipe into the body of the elbow fitting – through the nut, split ring, and o-ring. For pipe diameters of 40mm and above, it’s advisable to chamfer the cut end of the pipe and use a silicone based lubricant.
For elbows up to 40mm in size, it’s adequate to tighten the nut by hand – but for larger sizes, it’s advisable to use a pipe wrench.
