Our 160mm 6 Inch Galvanised Wire Balloons fit into the top of the downpipe (160mm Soil Pipe) at gutter level and stops leaves and pests from entering the 160mm downpipe.

Why do you need a wire balloon leaf guard?

To make sure you’re following building regulations, the soil vent pipe that makes up part of your soil system should be more than 900mm over the height of any window within 3m. While this means unpleasant odours and particles leave the system without impacting anyone’s health or comfort, it also means you create an upright that can attract debris – along with birds and animals.

To make sure your stack stays clear and nothing enters, you’ll need a guard at the top of the vent. This is exactly what our galvanised wire balloons create.

Fitting a galvanised wire balloon guard

As long as you fit your balloon before you erect your vent, the job should take no more than 30 seconds. The 6 legs at the bottom of the guard simply slide into the top of the 160mm vent – and, because they will be slightly wider than the vent, they grip the inside of the pipe firmly. The diameter of the balloon body stops over-insertion too.

If you need to remove the galvanised wire balloon guard to clean or maintain the stack – it’ll slide out with minimal effort.
