Buy a High-Quality Ball Valve Online At EasyMerchant
Here at EasyMerchant, as part of our MDPE pipes range, we carry a wide range of MDPE fittings – including these ball valves.
Can’t see the ball valve you require? No problem! We’ll track down the ball valves you need and ship them to you as quickly as possible.
What is a ball valve?
A ball valve is designed to give users a point at which the flow of water can be stopped – isolating the pipes, fittings, and appliances on the outlet side.
A ball valve only requires a 90-degree turn to stop the flow of water. If the ball valve handle is sitting horizontally in-line with the pipe, the water is flowing – but if it’s at right angles to the pipe, then the water is stopped and will not pass the ball valve.
How does a ball valve work
Inside a ball valve, there’s a plastic or stainless steel ball with a cylindrical hole through the middle of it. It’s useful to picture it as a plastic or stainless steel large baring that’s been drilled through the middle.
This is attached to the handle – so when the handle turns, the hole that normally sits in line with the flow from the inlet pipe turns – leaving the water meeting a solid side of the ball. A ball valve is a simple but extremely effective low-cost design.
When open, the ball valve is ‘full bore’ – so allows the exact same flow rate as the MDPE pipe that attaches on the inlet and outlet sides.
Connecting the ball valve
A ball valve connects to your MDPE pipe in exactly the same fashion as a connector – you’ll need to cut and chafer your pipes, before inserting pipe liners – then, after loosening the ball valve compression fittings, the pipes will insert into the ball valve.
The outer compression nut on the ball valve will need to be tightened to make sure you can a solid, watertight seal – but this can be done by hand on smaller fittings. For larger fittings (generally 40mm and above) you’ll need to use a pipe wrench to make sure the nut is tight on the ball valve.
Ball valve sizes
We can provide a single ball valve or multiple ball valves in the following sizes:
- Ball valve – 20mm (this is the equivalent of a 1/2-inch ball valve)
- Ball valve – 25mm (this is the equivalent of a 3/4-inch ball valve)
- Ball valve – 32mm (this is the equivalent of 1-inch ball valves)
- Ball valve – 50mm (this is the equivalent of a 1 1/2-inch ball valve)
- Ball valve – 63mm (this is the equivalent of 2-inch ball valves)
