What is a Stack Drain?
The Stack Drain is an innovative – easy to install – drainage product which allows the user a quick solution to standing water issues such as puddles on the patio or driveway. Usually, the homeowner would need to pay for a soakaway system or a large gully to take care of the problem, however the Stack Drain allows the user to resolve the issue for as little as £39.99. Simply cut a hole in the patio / surface using an angle grinder, stack the drain to it’s desired height and then finish it using the cover provided. The water will now drain away into the hole and soakaway naturally.
People need a system that is cost effective, simple to install and not labour intensive. In addition to this, social expectations and environmental regulations are also changing meaning that we need to have new products that are more responsible in the redistribution of rainfall.
With all this in mind we have created a new type of drainage for water that has collected on outdoor ground surfaces.

The Problem.
Today’s weather creates a issue that we are aware of – heavy rainfall, which all too often overwhelms our sewer systems with high amounts of water from a downpour, or with rainfall over extended amounts of time. This is an issue that most governments are looking for a solution to this will help fight it and know all too well.
The origin of the issue is that as a species we are systematically capping our ground surface off with materials like paving, asphalt and concrete. What this often means is that water has nowhere to go but into our sewage systems rather than into the immediate surrounding sub-soil.
From a regular person point of view the current solutions are costly, time consuming, labour intensive and often overkill for what you are trying to correct. Attempting to fix the matter of the puddle that collects on your patio using a gully system or large soak-away under your patio or driveway appears too much to take care of and is very costly.
So what options are there?? The realty is that there are not any other viable solutions………that is until now.
The Solution.
For redirecting rainfall the solution must be:
- Cost effective;
- Easy to install;
- Not labour intensive; with
- Influence on the aesthetic.
With this in mind a solution was created that covers all these points and is environmentally responsible too, and as with the majority of great ideas the solution was the simplest of all.
We started with what regular people might do in order to solve the issue by using what was at hand a part of drainage pipe that goes down to the ground with a drain cap on top. Then we looked at what we understood the issues would be using this solution:
- One size Doesn’t fit all;
- Limited drainage potential;
- Tough to clean; and
- The materials are rarely created with the environment in mind.
With these points in mind we developed a drainage system that comprises of cones with filters plus a drainage plate. A solution that would not break your back or the bank, with the advantage of being valuable to the environment and your sewer system infrastructure.
The Advantages.
Our alternative – whilst unbelievably simple comes with loads of advantages, not just to the user but also to the environment in the large.
1) Low price:
In comparison to other solutions that are easily accessible to the general public ours is undoubtedly the most cost effective. A normal person will spend on average £220 (excluding hired help of a trades person) to put in an everyday solution, like a soak-away or gully system. Our method of a drain that is stackable is more than 5 times cheaper than this together with the advantage of people not having a trades person to install it.
Depending on the surface that you’re currently installing the Stack Drain in it only requires a level, a tape measure, a spade/trowel and a marker pen, everything that an average DIY enthusiast with own. Beyond that is the only other issue is a little bag of sand to use as a packing agent for the Stack Drain
2) Easy to install:
Depending on the outdoor surface that you are installing the Stack Drain into, it only requires a spade/trowel, a tape measure, a level and a marker pen, all things that an average DIY enthusiast with own. Beyond this is the only other thing is a small bag of sharp sand to use as a packing agent for the Stack Drain.
3) Not labour intensive:
After testing the Stack Drain on a number of different outdoor surfaces it was found that a typical installation time took no longer than an hour to complete, a whole lot less if dealing with subsoil. The installer is not required to remove large quantities of soil or disrupt the ground surface that they are installing , and will not need to dig any deeper than half a meter or any wider than the Stack Drain cover plate. This is an improvement.
4) Greater drainage potential:
Because of the layout (stacked cones) it means that rainwater can drain off at multiple factors down the stack, not just the ending of the pile as could be the case with a drainage pipe. Some people might point out that you can place holes along the pipe to help with drainage, and whilst this is true, it will indicate that sediment may wash back into the pipe, which some point you’ll have to clean out. There’s no back flow of soil into the stack because of it has designs but this is also decreased from the filters of the cone, something else a drain pipe does not have.
Drainage maintenance is a lot simpler with the Stack Drain.
5) Low impact of the aesthetic:
When you install you eliminate the surface area the Stack Drain capping plate demands and how it is installed is; the extra advantage of the stack. In real terms this means is that your garden, driveway, footpath, or where you install, won’t be disrupted or fearful in. When you complete all you will see is your drainage plate along with also the rain water.
6) Environmentally responsible:
Stack Drains keep to the following principles when being made:
All packaging is made from responsibly sourced or recycled materials;
There is no unnecessary packaging used at any stage; and
The drainage cones are made from a 100% recycled plastic.
Stack drains benefit the environment because:
Stack drains ensure that rainwater gets to where it’s supposed to be and not into already overwhelmed sewage systems;
It reduces the impact of drought by allowing rainwater that does fall to nourish the ground; and
It uses much less parts and materials than any other viable solution on the market.
